Our last show at Discovery Ventura went remarkably well, so we’re coming back on June 24th!
Doors open at 8:00pm, if you’d like to get dinner or maybe bowl a few rounds. It’s a great time for selfies, too!
Here’s some handy links before we get into the details:
We’ll be joined that evening by Alice Underground, an accomplished jazz band whose members also comprise another of our favorite bands to play with.
Accomplished, you ask?
Well, here’s some footage of their recent trip to Uzbekistan, as part of the US Arts Envoy exchange program on behalf of the United States.
Come early! They hit the stage at 7:30pm, and you don’t want to miss them.
Our featured vendor artist is Stefani Lee of Lee’s Menagerie.
Stefani always brings an assortment of magical creatures. If you’ve seen her work, you know why we keep bringing her back.
If you haven’t, here’s a few examples:
There are many more in the links above, and at leesmenagerie.com
Be sure to find Stefani before you leave. She’s awesome, and her work is even better in person.
Once again, the show starts at 9:00pm.
Doors open at 8:00 for food/drinks/bowling, or just saying hi before we’re all gross and sweaty.
Here’s those links again. You can’t escape ’em.
Wine, artisanal food, and a beautiful evening in Balboa Park? The Vine Affair is Balboa Park’s first annual wine event, spanning numerous themed locations.
There is something for everybody, but mostly for wine lovers.
And rounding out this eccentric collection is none other than the Velveteen Band! We’ll be playing a few sets at the Fleet Science Center, in Victorian London, and perhaps adding a little something to the mystery of it all.
Science? Art? Literature? A unique blend of cultural experiences? You couldn’t keep us away! (oh, and there’s wine)
– Check out some of the other entertainment!
– Buy tickets!
– Invite your friends!
You didn’t think we were gonna let this one go without making a video? Well, that hardly sounds like us!
You can read all about the show in our previous post, but you’ll learn a lot more by showing up and experiencing it.
What are you doing on April 15th? You should come to the Spring Fair! It’s like the County Fair, but springier!
They’ve got rides, they’ve got food, they’ve got the Velveteen Band. What more do they need?
(YOU!! See, that wasn’t a rhetorical question — they need you.)
There’s arts and crafts! Agriculture! Face painting! It’s all ages!
We’re especially looking forward to having the Baron’s photo taken with the Easter Bunny, so we can finally put THAT rumor to rest.
The Spring Fair runs all weekend at the Ventura County Fairgrounds, but we’ll just be playing on Saturday, at 4pm.
We’re super excited to finally play at Discovery in Ventura, this Friday, January 27th! We’re joined by our friends Once a Wolf, and Mad Max themed AHTCK. The show starts at 7, but come early for dinner and bowling!
(This show is all ages, but the Velveteen Band doesn’t start until 9pm, if bed times are a concern)
2016’s almost over, and while the year did bring us many fond memories, it really can’t go away soon enough!
So, we’ve got a show coming up in January, one week after the inauguration. ’cause, the world could use a party, and this is gonna be one.
But not just any party.
We’ve asked AHTCK to help guide us through the post-apocalyptic wasteland. It’s where they live!
Once a Wolf is also playing, so we might get some survival tips there as well. They used to be a wolf!
That all goes down on January 27, at Discovery in Ventura. It’s a fantastic venue, and we’re excited to finally play there.
There might be a new song or two debuted that night.
This is actually our first show in Ventura since the county fair, back in August. Or if you prefer, it’s our first show in Ventura County since Oxnard Steampunk Fest. Either way, it’s been too long. This town is our heart.
Doors open at 7. Come early for bowling!
(Oh! Hey! Have you ever gone bowling with a 6 foot rabbit? Maybe we should have lead with that.)
- 7pm: Once a Wolf
- 8pm: AHTCK
- 9pm: The Velveteen Band
- 10pm: Nobody. We have to stop playing.
Invite all your Facebook friends!
Buy your tickets now!
Note: this is an all-ages show, but we’re the last of three bands to perform. If your kids have an early bedtime, please take that into consideration.
The Velveteen Band loves playing in:
- Las Vegas
- Comic Book Conventions
- Free Events
- All Ages Shows
…and this one checks all of those boxes!
AND!! It’s at the Clark County Library, which is sort of incredible. We don’t have to be quiet there! They have two theaters. Does your library have two theaters? Just look at this theater!
We love comic books as much as the regular kind, and we love that this library is using comics to promote literacy. It’s fantastic to be a part of that.
It’s a short day, and we’re closing it out in the main theater from 3pm-4:30.
If that’s too early for you, we’re also playing at the afterparty:
The afterparty is also free, though you do have to be 21+ to get in.
If you saw us in the con, but your friends didn’t, you’ll have a few hours between shows to convince them to come out.
Anyway, here’s some links for you:
We’ll get a video up for you soon. Like us on Facebook or subscribe to our blog here to make sure you’re the first to see it.
Oxnard SteampunkFest was a huge surprise last year. As a first-year event, we didn’t expect much, but it turned out to be one of the best events we’ve ever played at. We’re so excited about its return this weekend — the team has cranked everything to eleven!
Here’s a sample of who else you’ll see there…
Special judges for the costume contest:
That’s not even getting into the 45 different vendor booths, or the creative work put forth by other attendees! Here’s a taste of that from last year:
Anyway, we hope you can make it. You’ll find a ton of info here!
In just two weeks (on Saturday, October 1st), we’ll be headlining “the London Blitz”, part of this year’s San Diego Who Con!
We’re obviously huge fans of Doctor Who, and frankly, of San Diego. So this is a huge honor all around.
We’ll be playing at 8:30, with a second set at probably 10pm. Give or take. (People assume that start times are a strict progression from cause to effect. But actually, from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it’s more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey… stuff.)
Random Gibberish is also performing!
Tickets for the event can be found here. Picking any of these options will get you into the concert:
- SD Who Con 3 Day Membership
- Saturday Membership Only
- “the London Blitz” dance w/ the Velveteen Band
If you need a hotel room, there’s info on that here.
Be sure to “like” San Diego Who Con’s Facebook page for up-to-the-minute announcements!
